THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Internal Accountant to manage the financial administration of our retail and wholesale operations. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, General Manager, and Managing Director, you’ll oversee daily financial management, assist with budgeting and forecasting, and provide insights that support business decision-making.

This is a hands-on role at our Canberra headquarters, with occasional work-from-home flexibility. You will work closely with a small, passionate team that values precision, reliability, and a shared respect for the outdoors.

Key Responsibilities

Perform month-end and year-end close processes
Reconcile domestic and international accounts
Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable
Prepare and analyse financial reports, including balance sheets, profit and loss, and cash flow statements
Provide insights through variance analysis and commentary to support management decisions
Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies
Assist with budgeting and forecasting across departments
Collaborate with the finance team and other departments to ensure smooth operations
Contribute to process improvements and documentation
Work with external accounting firm procedures
Prepare and pay the monthly BAS and conduct the fortnightly payroll
Perform other related accounting duties as required

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Degree in Accounting or equivalent, with a recognised qualification (CA or CPA preferred)

10+ years’ experience preferred; strong candidates with less experience will also be considered

General knowledge of auditing practices

Strong understanding of IFRS and general accounting principles

Knowledge of Australian, New Zealand, UK, and US direct and indirect taxes

Proficient Mac user; confident with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word) and ERP systems

Experience with NetSuite highly regarded
Familiarity with Generative AI and other AI technology developments
Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills
Strong organisational and multitasking ability
Effective communicator, able to translate financial information clearly
Proactive, solutions-focused, and trustworthy
Interest in outdoor products and curiosity about their design and use
